The stabbing took place around 2:15 p.m., Monday, Nov. 29, at a New Haven County city bus stop on Dixwell Avenue, adjacent to Hamden High School in Hamden.
According to Sean Dolan, a spokesman for the Hamden Police Department, the stabbing was uncovered when a student approached School Resource Officer Jeremy Brewer in front of the school and said he had been stabbed.
The student was taken inside the school for treatment until EMS could arrive.
A preliminary investigation revealed that two students were involved in a physical fight just off campus, Dolan said.
During the fight, one of the students stabbed the other multiple times in the back, he added.
A small folding knife was seized at the scene.
The 14-year-old victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The 13-year-old suspect, a 9th-grader at the school, was taken into police custody and criminal charges are pending, Dolan said.
In a letter sent to parents, District Superintendent Jody Ian Goeler and Hamden High Principal Nadine Gannon said the school’s crisis team will be available Tuesday, Nov. 30, and the schedule will be adjusted to allow a space for students to receive support.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Anyone with information or video of the fight is asked to contact Detective Andrew Lipford of the Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit at 203-230-4055.
